Description:  This new course has been developed in response to requests from therapists and teachers who were interested in attending an advanced course on the link between sensory processing and behavior, and strategies for managing challenging behaviors in the pediatric/school setting.  Developing strategies for management of challenging behaviors in students with disabilities consumes much time and effort, often without significant results, which can significantly interfere with the therapeutic process.  Supporting long lasting and positive behavior change requires delving deeper into numerous issues surrounding the student and educational environment including sensory processing, communication, and the functions of behavior.  This course will discuss foundational issues and provide a framework and model for developing positive behavior strategies which would, in effect, enhance compliance on the part of the child during classroom time and therapy sessions.  Participants will be given an opportunity guided practice in using the model provided.
